Well, this. It's kind of funny. VAG parts bin FTW!

you think thats bad you should see the.miata interior door handles used on the DB7
![]() 07/16/2014 at 03:58 |

It's not bad, I will admit they are good door handles! Now wait a minute.. I just looked both up, and wow! I never knew! Well, I was aware of the Mazda/Aston Martin under the same roof but.. Interesting. Kind of like the Noble M400 and Sonata!

There was a time when every VAG product shared door handles. What of it? They worked.

We all know that when you buy a VW you're buying a less flashy version of the Audi/Porsche your VW is based on :$ The doors of the cayenne look pretty similar to the toureg if I recall correctly.

The Touareg/Q7/Cayenne share much more than just the chassis, they are incredibly similar under the skin. Also, that is exactly why I choose the GTI! It's the closest thing to an Audi/Porsche. It has direct bloodlines to them.

There is both a cayenne and Q7 in my neighborhood. I wonder if the owners know how similar they are. Is the GTi related to the A3? Or A4?

So I guess that makes Porsche the German Mercury.

So my Cabrio was actually a Boxster? :p

The Golf/GTI are platform buddies with the A3.

The GTI is heavily related to the A3 and A4. The 2.0TSI is almost identical to some Audi options.

The base A4 is FWD and has a CVT. I can't believe Audi does that.

Plus the 3.2l Vr6 engine in my A3 is the same as then R32 I believe. So yeah, they're pretty similar aside from interior and such

Nor can I. I will NEVER get a CVT. The DSG is a great trans, though.

Even the interior though.. There are so many shared parts. In fact, the GTI pedals are the same as the ones on the R8 too.

Yes.

That must make GTI fanboys so smug hahahaha

Oh there's a whole thread on GolfMk6 about parts being shared with higher-end VAG cars.

Is it bad that my want for an R8 has been slightly (only a tiny bit, but nonetheless) lessened?
![]() 07/16/2014 at 22:40 |

No, not at all. There are better cars out there. It's too civilized for a "super car". It's like a Merc SL imo.
![]() 07/16/2014 at 23:24 |

I dont think id go that far but I see your point about the sl. I think if I wanted an over 100k sports car that wasn't gonna be purely performance then I would much rather go with something like an Aston or Maserati that's more beautiful and exotic rather than an Audi. Though personally I would be buying classic cars, or if I'm going modern I'd get a ford gt. My dad actually almost bought an R8 and was on the wait list for 2 years but got a C6 Z06 instead because more performance less money although he now sold that and is buying a Z51 stingray. The Z06 was fuckin awesome though I got my license only a couple months too late to drive it :/

I feel like the Audi's too "civilized". The Z06 is an animal, what a blast to drive! I just got done driving a 2014 Quattroporte GTS, that was a blast too!
![]() 07/16/2014 at 23:30 |

Damn that GTS must be the definition of super sedan. I wish I could've driven the Z06 but he sold it before I learned stick. I got to drive his 1990 911 turbo which was crazy and I can't wait for the new stingray to come in a month or so. What was the quattroporte like? I'm assuming crazy on the straights but since it's a heavy sedan not too well in the twisty bits?

Well it was interesting how it went. It was my dad's business partner's, and he's like a family friend. My dad and him had work to do, was going to take hours. He threw the keys to me and said "have a blast". I spent over 3 hours cruising around in this car, driving everywhere! Oh it was great! Once in a lifetime experience. The only closer thing to that was when I went to this McLaren P1 release event. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/mclaren-p1-pri…

The car felt like an animal. Every time you step on the gas, you just feel the rush of torque. The car feels so big and luxurious until you tap on the pedal.

they let you take it for three hours alone!!!! How old are you? I can totally see myself getting too confident over several hours and crashing haha cuz I'm only 18. Damn you got lucky haha

I'm 17... And I have no idea... What I did? I cruised around my town, finding people I knew, then took it to unpopulated backroads. Felt great.
